JUNE 23 Seminar on Mail Processor Positions

On June 23 a seminar will be held at the Air Port Plaza on the implementation of the agreements to upgrade mail processor positions.. Ben Lyons and Leon Tatum will conduct the training sessions. The training will begin at 9 am and continue until 5 PM. Any member wishing to attend, should call me at the Union Office for setting.

Finally the National Union & Postal Service have agreed on Mail Processor Positions. As you are aware, in our Arbitrated Agreement, the arbitrator upgraded Mail Processors to Level 05 as well as upgrading Senior Mail Processors to Level 06. This agreement was never implemented. Now that the final agreement has been signed. Upgrading should take affect immediately.

In the agreement, it was agreed that the Mail Processor positions duties and responsibilities will be combined with Level 05 Mail Processing and distribution positions' duties to establish one positions description, entitled Mail Processing Clerk, PS-5. The Mail Processing Clerk, PS-5 position will replace, Mail Processor, PS-5, Distribution Clerk, PS-5 and Optical Character Reader Operator, PS-5. All current employees in the position descriptions will be automatically placed in the newly established Mail Processing Clerk position. Mail Processing Clerk, Level-5, when posted , will continue to contain principle assignment area.

Agreement on Senior Mail Processors (SMP) PS-6, in Non-Maintenance Capable Offices was agreed to. Senior bidder for all SMP positions and mixed duty assignments which include SMP duties will enter a deferment period and be provided appropriate combinations of training, testing and practical demonstration of ability to perform in the position.

SMP duty assignments may be established as mixed duty assignments and include Mail Processing Clerk; Window Clerk; Distribution and Window Clerk; Sales, Service and Distribution Associate; and Sales & Service Associate duties.
